I led the redesign of AI Scribe, evolving it from an early MVP note-generation tool into a platform covering the end-to-end clinician workflow. We cut documentation time by 85% and boosted weekly clinician retention by 35%, and unified Avo’s services into a one-tool solution that strengthened sales.

Incomplete Notes Led to Low Stickiness
AI Scribe grew fast after launch, but clinician retention stayed low. Because notes were generated solely from recordings, essential details—like history, age, or vitals not mentioned in conversation—were missing, forcing clinicians into long editing sessions. For short visits, many found it faster to document manually rather than fix incomplete notes.
Bridging the Gaps
Through collaboration with the GTM team and in-depth research, we uncovered how engaged users worked around these gaps:
Before the encounter, they dictated patient details, paused, and resumed recording so those details would be included
After the encounter, when reviewing notes, they used third-party AI services (e.g., GPT, Claude) to merge AI Scribe outputs with Chart Assist, our clinical decision support (CDS) tool
These patterns revealed both the pain and the opportunity. We set out to support the entire clinician journey—from pre-visit preparation to post-visit documentation and signing—so that AI Scribe could replace fragmented workarounds and become a truly dependable tool.
01
Context-Rich Draft Notes
We introduced draft notes that could be pre-filled with patient details from the EHR or entered manually. This removed the need to dictate context each time and let clinicians start visits better prepared.
02
Smarter Note Enhancement
We integrated Chart Assist directly into the note page. Clinicians could enrich notes without third-party tools, while engagement with our Assist product increased.
03
Seamless Multitasking
We redesigned recording to allow pausing, adding later, and switching between multiple recordings. This flexibility supported clinicians during rounding and ER workflows where many patients are seen in parallel.
From User Pain to Business Gain
By addressing real user problems first, the product naturally evolved into a stronger platform—driving both meaningful user impact and measurable business growth.
